As I go to bed tonight I shall thank God for the safety he has provided for me and the other bikers, as well as for all my loved ones at home. I mavel at his creation and in so doing, I am in awe of our Creator. Peace and love to you as you celebrate Palm Sunday!

Home, Home on the Range......
You Know Your In Texas When:
You Know Your In Texas .....when you see Texas Longhorns grazing at the side of the road. We continue to see what I call "ranges" where a fair amount of animals are grazing. I cannot figure out where their "home" is because we never see the farms or ranches.
Here is a bison grazing. Traveling 55 miles today we did not come upon one gas station or store. Towns are few and far inbetween here in West Texas. We saw about 3 possible homes/ranches, but they looked as those they had been vacated years ago. This area looks a lot like the Wild Bill Hickock movies we used to watch (well, those of you who are 60 and over!)
Can you see the "scrub" greenery that grows on the "range" prior to the mountain/hills. The Forever Flyer is resting upon a rock. No reported flats today which is amazing with the rough Texas pavement. We always had a nice shoulder today and very minimum traffic.
Another view of the mountains....more rounded and some flat. During a little difficult period today, Kirby said "have you made arrangements yet to have your bike shipped from Fla. to home?" I felt it was just bad timing and I replied "I just might trash my bike when I get to St. Augustine!" She asked this during our 20 miles of head/cross winds. However, we then had 20 miles of a strong tail wind - sending us to 22-25 mph with no effort at all. Our last 15 miles was a lighter tail wind, but still easy. So easy that even The Sweepers got into the hotel at 1:00. That's the good news...the bad news is the hotel isn't worth getting in to! I knew 3 nights of wonderful hotels was leading up to something.
The newest fashion statement....Guardian of Baby Tennessee is fighting off the strong winds and Texas dirt that flys past us. I told her when we get home she could use this picture on E-Harmony!
Meet Bill and Diane from California. They, too, are traveling from CA to Fla, but note they carry all their gear on their bikes. They are on the same route as us so we have met up with them several times and stayed at the same hotels a few times. Some nights they camp; and expect to reach St. Augustine the end of April - just like us. When not biking, they run a B & B in Benton Hot Springs, CA.
We are seeing more and more cacti blooming along side the road. Yesterday I took a picture of agave, which is the cactus tequila is made from.
The Outback Oasis Motel.....my photography ability does wonders for this place! Tonight will be another night for me to grow and stretch as I attempt to sleep in this wonderful Oasis God has brought us safely too.

Glad to hear you had some winds pushing you along. I agree, the Outback Oasis Motel does not look very inviting but I bet you all welcomed it to rest your tired, wiery bodies. Sure hope those cattle don't decide to chase you!!!!! Blessed Palm Sunday to you too. Stay safe and I hope Sunday's ride has a wind at your back.

The pictures again speak a thousand words...hope you had a good Palm Sunday ride. The bikers who are B&B owners are quite impressive with all their luggage!! Hope the weather is cooperating with you all...Love, Barb
ReplyDeleteHey Gal:I've been following your post and I have an liking to the Guardian of Baby Tennessee. Tell her not to waist her darn money on E-Harmony. I'll have her just the way she is. I have a heart as big as Texas and a bod similiar to the Long Horn Texas bulls you show on your post. Tell her she won't be a needin that kerchief on her face cause I be keepin her in the kitchen where women belong. She can quit the ride right today cause no woman of mine be biking the U.S. I be stayin tuned to your post - can you give me her email? Big Buck p.s. If baby Tennessee is a real baby - the deal is off. I already supportin 13 brats.
