For most of the day the weather and traffic were not our friends. We started out with about 3 hours of drizzly rain; followed by lots of wind. Since we are in hill country, I should not be amazed and the number of hills....but I am!
A word about the traffic....at about 8:55 the highway we were on became extremely busy with cars/trucks flying by. A mile or two later we passed a couple of churches so I decided this influx of traffic going way too fast were last-minute church goers. Then an hour or two later the traffic got extremely heavy (oh, I should say there was no shoulder on the road so that was part of my concern) and the cars/trucks were going faster than ever. I have an answer for this too.....you see the people had just gone to church and perhaps heard for the first time about salvation and now that they know they have eternal life, gee....let's put it to the test and just fly down the road! So there you have it - they all got to go to church and I didn't! However, I can say I probably spent more time today with the Lord than what I have other Easters.
Miles and miles of this beauty abounds along the highways and into fields. Each field lovelier than the next. The wild flowers are in full bloom here in Texas....and like everything in Texas - they are bigger and better! (so the Texans say)
A field of Indian Paint brush. Looks quite different from the Indian Paint Brush in Wisconsin, however, my biker pal, Kirby, is a "master gardener" so she oughta know!
Today's 93 miles was difficult for me. Most of us felt like we were "on guard" at all times watching the traffic - due to no shoulders on the road. We honestly didn't have much chip seal today - but Texas came up with a new trick....the sign says "Textured Payment Ahead". How to describe it? Vertical strips with ruts that run for about 1/2 mile every so often. Not good for biking; one of the gals, Pam, got her tire stuck in one of the ruts and took a nasty spill. Her arm is one big road burn; but after a trip to the hospital she is declared "okay". I'm sure she will be in pain for a few days. Enjoy the picture above because as I laid my bike down to take the picture, my mirror broke. Lucky for me, I had only nine miles left to go so I rode between Katie and Kirby and they watched for traffic for me. Alayne loaned me a mirror that attaches to your glasses which I will use until I find the next bike shop.
Lockhart, Texas.....too bad it was Easter - they were closed. However, Dairy Queen didn't close for Easter.....blizzards here we come!
We see lots of these blossoms, which seem to be on palm trees? I only had 10 hours of biking during which I could have asked the master gardener what they actually are....maybe tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow....it is only a 45 mile day, hills yes, but maybe the weather will be our friend? Time for me to sign off...I'm still icing my knees and need to apply lotion to my sunburned back.
A special Happy Easter greeting to "Grandpa Billy", Cheri & Jason's grandpa who has been following my blog.
Ya all come back now!
Wow the wildflowers are truly beautiful! I sense a new set of pictures will take the place of the market ones in your kitchen when you return. Hopefully the shorter distance today will truly be a treat instead of a sign of a rough ride. The kids and I enjoyed talking to you yesterday (-;

We enjoyed talking to you yesterday as well, as we were gathered around the Easter table with an empty chair for you. We miss you, but are so proud of all you accomplish each day. (Thanks for acknowledging Grandpa Billy, he'll be tickled when he reads that!)
