"Tell Me Why The Sky's So Blue"?

How is this for a blue sky? Why do you suppose the sky is so blue? I'll tell you why later.

Simple Pleasures of My Day:

  • Looking up to a blue sky and not a cloud to be seen

  • hearing the birds just singing their hearts out as we ride by

  • Seeing several baby calf's

  • Seeing a baby horse nursing

  • screaming voices of children having fun playing in their yard

  • the smell of pine as we rode through forest

  • Seeing the 'Motel 8" as we hit the 75 mile mark

Great road conditions, limited traffic, high in low 70's made for a wonderful day of biking. The wind continues to be our uninvited companion, but we try to ignore it and continue on.

Baby is nursing...I couldn't quite capture it; but my heart and soul felt it. It's all just so beautiful and natural.

After I caught baby nursing, mom nudged her away - so here they are chewing on grass. One of our bikers who is "into horses" says the colt is 1 - 2 weeks old!

This picture is out of order....but here is the story. Remember, the bumpy road caused my mirror to break off on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday, Alayne kindly lent me her mirror that fits on glasses; but the learning curve on that type of mirror is difficult so I hardly was used to it. On our day off (Wednesday) I got a new mirror and for the first 20 miles of today I LOVED my new mirror. Stopped to take a picture, wind gust blew my bike over and broke my mirror off!!! So here we are using electrical tape to an attempt a short-term fix. It actually held for 45 miles. With ten miles left to go, I was mirror-less.

I hope you think this picture is BEAUTIFUL because it cost me my mirror! The Wisteria simply wrapped itself around this tree and it looks like a Wisteria tree. It was beautiful. Note: At that same spot the wind knocked another bike over - but nothing broke.

Texas has many faces/landscapes. We saw some farms, but seemed to get into a forest land and some lakes. Wildflowers were a bit scarce today, well at least compared to the last week. We saw several logging trucks just like in Northern Wisconsin.

As we rode through Sam Houston National Forest, the woods was still smoking from a "controlled fire". You can see on the trees where the burn level is. You could also really smell the burn. Not a real pretty sight, but I guess a necessary one.

I felt like I was on my way to Papa's Place as we rode through the forest. Lots and lots of pine trees. Really looks a lot like Wisconsin.

These Boots Are Made For Walking!! Met this young man in a restaurant in Waverly, Texas. He was asking questions about our journey and we noted his boots. The bottom portion is made from alligator and the top leather. Texas cowboys are kind and friendly.

As we rode from Navasota to Anderson, To Richards, to Waverly, to Cleveland, Texas I just couldn't stop looking up into the blue, blue sky. As I did, I found myself singing a song that I often sing on bike trips as I try to pass the time. (Don't worry Van, no one could hear me sing)

Here's my song: (sing along if you know it)

Tell me why the stars do shine

Tell me why the ivy twines

Tell me why the sky so blue

Then I will tell you just why I love you!

Because God made the stars to shine

Because God made the ivy twine

Because God made the sky so blue

Because God made You, that why I love you.

What a great creator our God is!
