This is Still Hill Country!!

I'm writing to you tonight from Blanco, Texas. For those of you who live in Oconomowoc....I will just say I'm staying at the LaBelle Motel chain....I feel like I'm at home on Highway 16. It was a 65 mile ride today, starting out with 20 peaceful beautiful miles. Followed by 45 miles of hills and hills and hills. The scenery pretty, but I'm icing my knees tonight. None of the hills were "killers", but the fact that they went on for 45 miles made them feel like killers! Do you think I found J.R,.'s homestead? I didn't notice J. R. or SueEllyn out in the yard...but I think this could be their place!

Deep in the heart of Texas (Comfort, Texas) I came upon a farmer's market. Live music came from the gazebo, and I was drawn in to see what it was all about. Everyone else went on to the bakery down the street while I enjoyed just a bit of southern comfort and charm.

Can you get more Texan than these two guys? I believe they were fixin bacon and eggs on the grill.

Everybody has to eat! We often come upon a scene like this, often with a larger carcass, but until today I haven't had luck capturing their meal. I hurried with my picture before they decided to have me for dessert.

Did I make a wrong turn and end up in Wisconsin? Many parts of our ride today felt just like home. These flat lands were prior to our hills. The fields seem to be recently plowed.

Another reminder of Wisconsin.....

Waring General Store is still functioning. We stopped to enjoy and have a treat.

A little bit of biking humor. As we approached a turn off which we were told was easy to miss, we received a little assistance from this road sign "Sweeps - complete with arrow". Some of our speedier bikers must be concerned that not only is the sweeper team slow...but directionally challenged! Thanks Amy!

My reward for making it to Blanco, Texas, Kate Stevens-Malin and her husband Gordon, and family dog, were there to greet me. Kate lived next door to me for years and then moved to San Antonio. We had great fun catching up on things and they took me to this very Texan style restaurant. All too soon they dropped me off at the LaBelle Motel and I better get busy preparing for tomorrow's ride.
